Visit Denmark with NetFerry: discover Copenhagen by bike!

Are you thinking of visiting a European capital? Charming Copenhagen is waiting for, situated in northern Europe, it's clean, safe and full of bicycles. Less than 5% of Copenhageners have a car!

Denmark is the smallest of the Scandinavian countries. Still, the streets of its capital boast more bicycles than cars and Copenhagen has more than 350 kilometres of cycle paths, making cycling green and safe. Get ready to see men in suits and women in skirts and heels onboard bikes, riding fast through the city streets.

If you are visiting and want to discover beautiful Copenhagen by bicycle, Netferry recommends a tour from the north to the south of the city, on which you'll discover lovely beaches and parks.

Where can I get a bike?

No need to bring your bike from home; in fact as soon as you arrive in Copenhagen you will find loads of shops who rent bikes at very affordable prices; for around ten euros a day to 50 euros for a whole week. There is also the possibility of renting the latest bikes with built-in tablet and GPS, which are perfect for exploring city. Tourists can even get involved in the city-wide bike-sharing service, which allows you to pick up and leave bikes in designated racks all over the city. There are also some more expensive rentals like Go Bike, which have innovative and smart services.

There are 600 high-tech pedal-assisted white bicycles available in over 50 spots. All operations take place via the touch screens on the bikes and payment can only be made by credit card. The added value of this bike-sharing system is that the display mounted on the handlebars is also satellite navigation, tracking your position on the map in real-time.

Use public transport with your bicycle

You can board public transport with bicycles and travel for long distances, just buy an extra ticket for your bike, costing € 1.60. But remember, during peak hours (in the morning from 07.00 to 08.30 and from 15.30 to 17.00 in the afternoon) it is not possible to board the metro and regional trains with bikes.

City discovery tour

The first interesting stop is the Little Mermaid, a statue not to be missed and the symbol of the capital. It depicts a mermaid on a rock, the protagonist of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved and well-known fairy tale. Amalienborg Palace is about a kilometre and a half away, until 1750, it was the residence of the Danish kings, but today it's only used as a royal residence during summer. 650 meters from the royal palace is Nyhavn harbour; a place with a fantastic atmosphere, full of colours, scents and life! It is part of picturesque Copenhagen harbour, to get there by bike, continue on to Amalienborg Slotsplads and then go along Toldbodgade. Take a break in one of the quaint restaurants or cafes here and enjoy the view over the canals. From Nyhavn port, cross the bridge and take signs for Nyhavnsbroen, then turn right onto Kongens Nytorv / O2, continue on Gothersgade, turn left and take Landemærket, continue on this wide road that will take you to the tower. Take a walk to the top to get some great views over the city. The tower is the tallest building in the city, and has a spiral staircase inside that takes you to the top.

Five hundred meters from the famous tower, a nice walk in Copenhagen's shopping area, Strøget, the street is packed with trendy shops for a bit of retail therapy, then head up to the town hall square.
