Guide of Kos

The island of Kos is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece. It is located very close to Turkey and the island is very fertile and has been intensely cultivated despite being crossed by mountain ranges, Mount Dikeo reaches up to 846 meters! The island is the second largest of the Dodecanese and like Rhodes, enjoys a wonderful climate surrounded by beautiful water.

Places to visit

Because of its position and its proximity to Turkey, Kos suffered multiple invasions beginning with the Caras and Dori as early as the 11th century BC. The island became famous during antiquity for its medical school and for being the birthplace of Hippocrates who uttered his famous oath while walking with his students. Like the other Greek islands, Kos was conquered by the Romans, then by the Byzantines and Venetians. It was sold by the Venetians to the Knights of St. John who settled in Rhodes, then Kos later fell into Turkish hands for four long centuries until the Italian occupation in 1912. Evidence of these populations on the island remain in the Castle of the Knights which is worth a visit. In Piazza del Platano, it is said that Hippocrates spent time meditating in the Archaeological Museum which houses a collection of Hellenistic and Roman finds.

Beaches

The island is full of culture and art but is also universally known for its summer nightlife and beach parties that last until dawn.  Is is also a good destination for those seeking a nature holiday being very green and lush with its oleanders, palms and pine forests that help alleviate the summer heat and cool the nights. Kos offers tourists different experiences, those in search of relaxation and clear and calm seas will be satisfied because here are beautiful beaches with fine white sand, such as Psalidi, Agios Fokas, Faros and finally Paradise Beach which is the most famous on the island.
