Guide of Huelva

Huelva, the port city of Andalusia, is located on the Spanish south-western coast, almost on the border with Portugal.

History

The town has very ancient roots and archaeological findings claim the presence of populations in the town as early as the 6th century BC. C. Historical changes saw the city under Phoenician, Greek, Roman and Arab rule and finally, in the nineteenth century, the town witnessed the presence of the English capitalists who came here because of the mines.

In addition to playing a fundamental commercial role for the town, the port has a fascinating character from a tourist perspective as during the Holy Week the typical religious celebrations take place there.

Places to visit

In Huelva, be sure to visit the Provincial Museum which is home to many archaeological findings, also the Grand Theater and the Gothic Church of San Pedro which was built on top of a mosque. Also, the district Barrio Ovrero Reina Victoria is very interesting as it was built for miners by the English mining company and presents the typical style of English housing construction.

Beaches 

Huelva has a great beach called Costa de la Luz with fine golden sand surrounded by pines, it is well equipped with amenities. During the summer do not miss a visit to Punta Umbria, that can be reached by canoe, a connection that has been used since the early 1900s.
