The port is near the town of Getxo and is 20 kilometres from Bilbao. The Original Port of Bilbao was moved from the city centre, downstream to the Bay of Biscay, to support more ocean trade and to make room for new city centre riverside developments. In 2018, the Port of Bilbao received 59 cruise vessels with 86,500 passengers, mainly from the UK and Germany.
