Muuga is Estonia’s largest port, located about seventeen kilometres from the capital Tallinn, on the northeast coast, overlooking the Gulf of Finland. Muuga is a modern port with state-of-the-art facilities, and 80% of Tallinn’s cargo traffic passes through here. The port is very extensive, covering an area of 5 square kilometres on the mainland and 7 in the water. Inside the port, there are various terminals, including one for passenger transport, with the Tallink ferry company providing connections between Muuga and Vuosaari in Finland. The check-in usually opens an hour and a half before the departure time.
How to reach the port of Muuga
There are bus connections between Tallinn and the port, which take about thirty minutes and are operated by Tallinna Linnatranspordi. Take the number 34A towards Hobujaama, it leaves every thirty minutes, the ticket costs around €3; or you can use the Temptrans bus, which operates every four hours and the journey takes about twenty minutes. Tickets can be purchased onboard and cost around € 25. By car, the drive from Tallinn takes about thirty minutes, take the Koorma towards road 94 Muuga, from here take the 94 bus and continue until you see Muuga Harbor. The area has several parking lots nearby for a fee or not.
The nearest international airport is in Tallinn, 18 kilometres away and connected to Muuga port by the Tallinn-Narva E20 road. There is also bus number 2 from the airport, which leaves every thirty minutes. Get off at the Laikmaa bus stop and from there, take bus number 102/172/173, they leave every hour and reach the Muuga port in around 30 minutes.
