Several small passenger ferries cross the River Tyne regularly, but the international ferry terminal is called the Port of Tyne International Passenger Terminal. At the terminal, there is a car park, cafe and shop, a Booking office, toilets and baby changing facilities and arcade games.

Getting to and from the passenger terminal 

Foot passengers should catch the metro from Newcastle Central Station on the yellow line to Percy Main. Then its 10-15 minute walk to the ferry terminal. DFDFs ferry company also provide a shuttle bus service from Bewick Street, opposite Central Station. Departures are at 14:45 and 15:45, and the journey takes approximately 20 minutes, a one-way ticket costs £3.80.

There are also buses back to the city centre where you can find the train station that has services to all over the UK. The closest international airport is Newcastle International, around 25 kilometres away. There are regular buses to the airport from the city centre.

In the car, the terminal is located around 14-kilometres away and takes around 25 minutes to drive. The ferry terminal is well signed-posted from all directions – follow the ferry road signs. ​​From Newcastle city centre, take the A1058 towards Tynemouth, and then the A19 towards the Tyne Tunnel. Then join the A187 towards Royal Quays. From the north, take the A19 towards the Tyne Tunnel (toll payable), then enter the A187 towards Royal Quays. From the south, take the A19 towards the Tyne Tunnel (toll payable). Drive through the tunnel and at the first exit, join the A187 towards Royal Quays.​

There is a secure car park operated by Port of Tyne. When you arrive, follow the signs for the car park, which is located on the right-hand side as you drive down the road. From here the International Passenger Terminal is only a short walk. If you need to drop people and luggage off first, do this directly outside the terminal before entering the car park.
